North Carolina closing cost calculator
Closing costs for Raleigh, Charlotte, Asheville, and the rest of NC.
North Carolina has lower closing costs than most Southeast states - no intangible tax on the loan, and the state excise tax (transfer tax) is just $2 per $1,000 of sale price. NC is an attorney-closing state, so budget $500-$900 for the closing attorney. Title insurance is reasonable because of NC's certified title opinion process.

Who pays the NC excise tax?+
The seller pays the NC excise tax of $2 per $1,000 of sale price. On a $400,000 sale that's $800. A handful of NC counties (Dare, Currituck, Chowan, Camden, Pasquotank, Perquimans) have authority to charge an additional 1% local transfer tax - also seller-paid in custom.
